Genesis Bible Church has three home fellowship groups that meet in Dunwoody, Tucker and Metro Altanta.  These are opportunities for us to have more opportunities to learn from and minister to each other aside from our Sunday morning meetings. 

    Many believers confuse the term “fellowship” with the idea of getting together, having fun, and, usually, eating. While our groups enjoy getting together, having fun and eating, our fellowship groups ministry is so much more than that. 

    Fellowship does not equal socializing. Nor does it refer to a watered-down teaching format. The word “fellowship” (the Greek word koinonia) is used in the New Testament to refer to several different activities that we accomplish in fellowship groups:

1. Biblical fellowship describes the activities that accompany the gathering of believers. Those activities include teaching, prayer, attention to what God is doing among his people, and the sharing of resources (Acts 2:42-47).
2. Biblical fellowship includes the financial and material contribution that some believers provide for other believers (Rom 15:26; 2 Cor 8:4; 9:13; Heb 13:16).
3. Biblical fellowship refers to the unity of believers regarding the basics of the faith. This unity is both doctrinal as well as practical; we are unified both by what we believe (Phil 1:6; 1 John 1:3) as well as by how we act (1 John 1:6-7).

    Thus, “fellowship” includes teaching, prayer, concern for the needs of individuals, the sharing of resources, and attention to the basics of apostolic Christianity.  It is our goal for the fellowship groups ministry to balance these elements of Christian fellowship, and, through them, to produce increasingly balanced believers.
